The BEST Things To Do In Seminyak

Seminyak is most definitely the foodie capital of Bali, with beautiful beaches, fun night clubs, and fantastic shopping. If you are a hipster like me who loves acai bowls and locally sourced food, and pristine white beaches with cotton candy sunsets, you will be in heaven. Here are some of the things we did in and the places we ate that I highly recommend!

Bali has some of the best surfing in the world! You can take lessons or do what we did and rent a board for an hour with no lessons. The second option is cheaper if you are confident enough! Bragging points but I stood up ON MY FIRST TRY! Of course nobody was paying attention and I stood up four more times while everyone else was grabbing drinks on the beach and I got no pictures 🙁 You will have fun with whatever option you choose!

Don’t pack a lot when you visit Bali because you will find many cute shops and boutiques here! Jalan Laksmana is the main strip and is a shopping haven. Some chic spots to hit are Gooseberry Intimates, Frockk Boutique, and  Kim Soo.

The food in Seminyak is fantastic. Anywhere you go your mouth will be watering but our hands down favorite place we ate was Mamasan. This restaurant is owned by a former Ohio State Buckeye, Will Meyrick, so I was sold right away. For lunch we had the lemongrass chicken which was fantastic. Some other places to check out are Char Char Grill, Cafe Organic, and Revolver Coffee.

You can choose to spend an entire day at the iconic Potato Head, Seminyak or do what we did and go for a classy dinner with a view. If you choose to spend the day here I suggest that you arrive by ten AM in order to snag a day bed! The food and drinks are phenomenal as well as the architecture designed by Andre Matin, who salvaged antique shutters from all across Indonesia.

Nightlife In Seminyak

If you are looking for rowdy things to do in Seminyak at night, Bali Joe was our hot spot! It is an openly LGBT venue that keeps the party going into the wee hours of the morning. The highlight of the gay scene it is mixed with locals and tourists and features drag shows and gogo dancers. Beware you will come out REEKING of cigarette smoke!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Bali is notorious for being extremely strict on drugs. But did you know exactly how strict? Category 1 drugs such as cocaine, marijuana, and ecstasy can have fines of up to $890,000 dollars and 4-12 years of imprisonment. DONT BE STUPID. And don’t accept any drugs from anyone on the street, as they could be undercover cops and then you would wind up with a whopping $25,000 fine.

La Plancha

The sunsets in Bali are some of the best sunsets I’ve ever seen. An iconic place to catch the sunset is La Plancha! Sitting on a brightly colored bean bag and umbrella you truly get to experience the beauty of Seminyak beach.

Grab a taxi and head to Tanah lot (45 minutes away) depending on the traffic. You can either get there for the sunset or visit when the tide is going out but be aware there will be LOTS of tourists! I actually didn’t get to visit because I was sick with Bali Belly (more on this later) but Shane visited and said it was awesome even in the rain.

You can also take a day trip from Seminyak to Nusa Penida, Ubud, or have someone pick you up so that you can climb Mount Batur! If you are looking for a day trip to Ubud, check out THIS blog post!

Because we were only in Bali for five days and I was sick for two of them, I WOULD DEFINITELY stay in Seminyak again. It was hip, not too crowded, had amazing food, and the beaches were stunning. 10/10 would recommend.things to do in seminyak
